A Charitable Spirit
We want our guests to walk away thinking Hotel Ylem was one of the best places to stay in Houston not only because of the quality rooms and friendly staff, but because of our commitment to giving back.
We are passionate about philanthropy, or as we like to call it, Y-Lanthropy.
We collaborate with local business partners, promote non-profit organizations and provide space for local artists, because we truly love to support our community. As you explore Hotel Ylem, you can see how each of our partnerships contributes to our unique style. Marvel over our water droplet decor in Bar Esperanto, paying homage to charity:water.
Charity: water
At Hotel Ylem, we are passionate about projects that work to provide communities in remote parts of the world with safe, clean drinking water.
That’s why we commit a percentage of proceeds from bar esperanto and the art gallery to charity: water. Additionally, those booking a room can choose the charity:water rate which adds an additional $10 donation to the organization.
Purpose For All
By providing eight hours of paid time off to volunteer at a charity of their choice, our employees are engaged in causes that are important to them and leveraging their skills to help organizations in need.
CB2 Throw Pillows
CB2 promotes helping others by partnering with three causes that we identify with at Hotel Ylem—hunger, diversity and creativity through the arts. We invite you to learn more about our involvement with Share our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign to help end childhood hunger; with GLSEN and Characters Unite to help promote LGBT diversity and end discrimination through education; and with Creativity Explored to support artists of all abilities.
Work+Shelter Hair Dryer Bags
Work+Shelter focuses on woman’s empowerment and poverty alleviation in New Delhi, India, by providing women with fair-trade work. Women are brought into a paid-training program to expand their skill set, and are then employed to create customized promotional goods for companies and brands worldwide. At Hotel Ylem, we are proud to have Work+Shelter hair dryer bags in each of our 79 rooms.
Lighthouse Louisiana Paper Cups
One of our main goals at Hotel Ylem is to create an inclusive environment for all of our guests. That’s why we are proud to partner with Lighthouse Louisiana, an organization that employs people with disabilities and gives them opportunities to succeed and funds additional services to help people with disabilities. We are proud to offer Lighthouse Louisiana paper cups at Hotel Ylem.
Bucketfeet
Check out our associate’s feet! Bucketfeet empowers artists to share their stories and perspectives using the universal language of art and a shoe as their canvas. Bucketfeet’s Artist Network is comprised of over 40,000 artists from more than 120 countries. They range from graphic designers, fine artists, street artists, graffiti artists, photographers, students, and everything in between.
Janavi Folmsbee
Our beautiful mural was created by local and internationally renowned artist, Janavi Folmsbee! She works with various conservation organizations such as the Galveston Bay Foundation and continues to grow her relationships with several others to help with marine conservation through art. JMF effortlessly combined the elements of water and mother, creating the face of our hotel.
FMW Fab
Our beautiful water droplet bar shelving was built by FMWFabLab! This company is a partner with Unity For a Solution, an organization made up of animal welfare groups and partners who care about reducing the stray animal population in Houston and educate on the importance of proper pet care. They also work with Barrio Dogs, which is the founding organization of Unity For a Solution. They focus their efforts on educating school age children on the the importance of animal treatment and pet healthcare. By focusing on the younger generation, we can make a bigger change in their future. Lastly, they are currently doing a pro-bono project for the Big Brothers Big Sisters project
Clean the World
We are so grateful to be a management partner with Clean the World. They collect and recycle soap and hygiene products discarded every day by the hospitality industry and other sectors that generate environmental waste. Through the distribution of these and other products to impoverished people, they prevent millions of hygiene-related deaths each year, reduce the death rate for hygiene-related illnesses, and encourage vigorous childhood development inside and outside of schools.
Miles David
Our uniforms were created by a local designer: David Peck of Miles David! It was not only his impeccable and fun style that impressed us. After seeing David’s incredible work with the KNOWAutism Foundation we knew we were a perfect fit! The KNOWAutism Foundation was founded to help children and their families who are affected by autism.
Fredlyn Nut Co.
Bar Esperanto is nuts about Fredlyn! Fredlyn supports the American Festival for the Arts which enriches, educates, and promotes young musicians in Houston schools. They also support the Houston Chronicle's Readers are Leaders program encouraging literacy, in addition to in-kind donations to events sponsored by their foodservice customers. For every bag we purchase, a percentage is given to charity:water!
